The Function of Flow

I study Kung-Fu and I like to swim in cold, furious rivers so I think I’m pretty much an expert on flow. Haha.

But, in the context of enterprise web design and implementation flow is about the ease with with tasks can be accomplished, information accessed and utilized. From the beginning this includes accessible development-making sure that digital content can be parsed by users of assistive technology. Flow is journey, paths, choice even. Where complex channels of information, such as in an enterprise site, have to be presented, designing the paths, segmenting the content in to user friendly pieces becomes critical for successful transactions.

I’m not afraid to make a qualitative assessment on web strategies based on a reading of metrics an understanding of site goals, short and long. I bring an artist’s sensibilities to designing a user experience, to me that means there is something pleasing, affirmative that happens in the designs and sites I work on.

Things that are intuitive are generally pleasing, so from the user prospective an outcome is accomplishment.

I think I have light touch with interaction design, I focus on simplicity and clarity in the service of function. It’s a discipline to keep focus on real, measurable outcomes.

In the example images there is a wire-frame for the user experience of the “At a Glance” version of the College Portrait. There is detail in how the user interaction is set-up, how they move to an outcome, what happens with errors, etc. The other images has examples of various sites and services across multiple devices I have created.
